Front Entrance Makeover

Ok friends, I want to share with you one of my favorite DIY’s ..

When we first built this house, I knew I wanted a grand front entrance, but not like most would think.. I loved everything Farmhouse, and reclaimed. And actually when we first moved in our barnwall, was not even something that was on my radar..

Between my two girls, and their friends.. the wall going up the stairs became ALL fingerprints! And the way the sun hit the wall, their was no hiding or wiping it! It drove me crazy!! haha We expressed our concern to the builder, and they of course came to re-paint where the marks were, but this still did not work..

All I could think was OMG we have been here a month, what is this going to look like years from now..! And this is the front entrance, the first thing you see! I had to come up with something, and something that represented our style, when you first walked in. I finally came up with the idea, of putting real barnwood up. My next challenge was to actually find real barnwood.. because this trend was just starting to be a trend, and the farmhouse style was not even really in stores yet. And not to mention my hubby was like you want to find…WHAT….. BARNWOOD.. this is a brand new house and were putting WHAT on the wall..LOL I was like, its ok, its going to look good, and be unique. He’s like YES definitely UNIQUE lol. Long story short, I was able to find real barnwood at a local antique store.. I paid a pretty penny for it though ($20 Canadian for each board), but I found it!

At this point my hubby, was even less impressed haha barnwood, on new walls, and $20 a board.. but he loves me, and so it came home lol.

Challenge number two..

Do you see the angle of the wall..?, well for someone like my hubby who has to do this, because his wife is asking Pleeeeeaaase and does not have the appropriate tools, this was a challenge. Long story short we were able to trace a template to cut the wood, for the appropriate angle, and up it went. And as he was screwing the wood in the wall, he’s saying ‘are you sure?’ there’s no going back now.. lol and as each board went up, I loved it more and more! And to this day it is now one of OUR favorite DIY’s! (And yes I said OUR, he loves it too!)
